About the event

This is our 1st Intramural Hoover-Ball Tournament taking place at Cabezon Park in Rio Rancho on August 24th.  Rules are attached below.  Nets will open at 8:00 for practice/warmup with games starting at 9:00. There will not be a play in for this double elimination tournament.

$10 per person paid before the tournament starts, there are no tickets to purchase online.  The money raised will be split between SWHB and the top 3 teams.  The payout for the top 3 will be determined by the number of participants so convince everyone you know to come out and play.  When the day is done and you bring home a pocket full of cash, you can buy them a beer (or soda depending on your age) and tell them thanks for the money.

Come play the game made for Presidents!!

  • 60 ft. by 30 ft. Each team's court is divided in half.
  • A 4 lbs., 10-inch medicine ball and 8 ft. volleyball net is used.
  • This is a double elimination intramural tournament, there must be at least 1 female on the court at any time.  Teams consist of 5 players, maximum of 3 on the court at any time.
  • Scoring traditionally follows tennis rules.  Each match will be the best of 5 games.
  • Males serve from the back line, females serve from mid-line.
  • All players should serve in a round robin style.
  • The ball must be caught on the fly and immediately returned from the point it was caught.  There is no running, hopping, or skipping with the ball prior to returning the volley.
  • Males cannot pass, females are allowed one pass per volley.
  • For males, a ball caught in the front court must be returned to the back court.  If the ball doesn’t reach the back court, the opponent is awarded the point.  The mid-line is part of the front court.
  • A ball caught/attempted to catch must be played.
  • A ball that hits the out of bounds line is a good return.
  • A player that catches the ball out of bounds or is carried out of bounds by the force of the ball may return in bounds before the return.
  • A ball that hits the net on its way over is a live ball but must be returned to the appropriate part of the court.
  • Teams may substitute freely at dead ball situations
  • Teams will referee and keep score of their own game.  Integrity is a must. A point or return in question is played over.  The game should not be influenced by spectators.
  • Good sportsmanship from players and fans is required.
